How frequently you change your generator’s oil depends on its operating time and the climate in which it operates. Generally, you should change your Generac generator oil after the first 25 hours of use in new generators, although the break-in time can look different for every generator model. 

Then, you should change the oil every 50 to 200 hours of operation, depending on how consistently you are running your generator. With average use, it is recommended to change a portable or a standby generator’s oil every 100 hours, but it can differ based on the model.
